When breaking a horse, my philosophy is that the majority of horses only react because they are frightened or unsure of the new experiences they are encountering.
Therefore to combat this, I do a tremendous amount of ground work with the horse to prepare them to accept a rider. This ground work is extensive. This I believe is a vital component of successfully breaking a horse.
At the completion of this work, I am ensured of the horse’s trust and I am confident that they are ready and well equipped to transitition to the next phase of the process.
I generally like to have my breakers for 3-4 weeks. This is usually enough time to have provided them with some basic flat work skills, including taking out their leads, doing simple changes, being able to follow circles and complete figure of eight’s, open/shutting gates, maneuvering through various obstacles and cracking whips.
The breed of your horse is irrelevant as I believe all of the above is essential to enable you to further educate your horse in whatever field you desire. I break for all disciplines, racing, eventing, dressage, jumping, polo, polo-cross, pony club, campdrafting, cutting, sporting, or your basic everyday horse.
Dungog Horse “N” Training Centre not only speacialises in breaking but is well equipped to further educate horses in any of the above disciplines. As a rider I have successfully competed in all of these disciplines, and have an extensive knowledge of the attributes required for a successful mount.
For the drafting and pre-cutting training, the American Bison, remote control powa cow and the availability of fresh cattle ensures that these educational experiences are particularly successful and exhilarating
